We love the clarity of relating to one person – being in dialogue, negotiating weight, direction and dynamics while hearts attune. It holds both simplicity and complexity, and we will dive deeply into the technical aspects of this form. – The mysterious web of satisfying jamming though needs more than that. Soloing and trios are the base for expanding beyond the common duet bubbles. Trios bring unpredictability, surprise and compositional challenges – the beauty of problem-solving in motion. There is a dynamic to trios that asks for calmness, ease and simplicity in order to let go into the openness. For decades I shied away from trios in my teaching. Now the desire for it is surfacing. – We’ll focus on the solo, duets and trios topic in the first half of the workshop and we want to see what’s emerging from what happened – or didn’t happen – in the first three days, during the second half of the workshop. – Each day will include a lab during which we can draw from the vast knowledge that many of the teachers and long term contacters bring to the space. How can we give feedback to support each other on our growing edges? While technical labs are always a great option, we’d like to also encourage more curiosity in how the solo body organises and establish soft skill labs that focus more on listening, emotional availability or courageous choice-making. – — – We, Joerg & Dino, are excited to invite you to another CI Summer Intensive in Berlin. More than in previous years, we want to tap into the collective knowledge and experience within the group, as many participants are teachers and long-term practitioners. We aim to shape this workshop in a more collaborative way, fostering a stronger sense of shared responsibility and self-efficacy. – We are interested in exploring formats that allow everyone to engage more actively beyond fixed roles, e.g. by contributing to daily CI labs, collaborating in the preparation and demonstration of material together with Joerg, or supporting one another through emotionally challenging moments. ECITE meeting in italy this year!

Liebe Tänzer*innen, ich möchte auf das diesjährige ECITE-Treffen in Italien aufmerksam machen. ECITE (European Contact Improvisation Teachers Exchange) ist ein seit rund 40 Jahren bestehendes internationales Treffen für Menschen, die Contact Improvisation vermitteln oder organisieren. Es bietet Raum für Austausch, gemeinsames Forschen, Diskussionen, Jams und Begegnungen mit CI-Praktizierenden aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern. Ich selbst habe bereits mehrfach teilgenommen und die Mischung aus Austausch, Tanz und internationaler Vernetzung als sehr bereichernd erlebt. Es gibt aktuell noch freie Plätze. ECITE lebt vom Austausch zwischen Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Hintergründen und Erfahrungsständen. Einige Teilnehmende haben erst begonnen, Verantwortung in ihrer Community zu übernehmen, andere bringen mehrere Jahrzehnte Unterrichts-, Organisations- und Forschungserfahrung mit. Entsprechend ist es auch offen für Menschen, die erst vor Kurzem begonnen haben, ihre ersten Erfahrungen im Vermitteln oder Organisieren von CI zu sammeln. Oct 2026 Contact Improvisation: Principles and Practice Chris Aiken and Angie Hauser Info&Registration https://dancedot.art/contact-improvisation-principles-and-practice-with-chr… This workshop focuses on developing physical intelligence and emotional resonance in contact improvisation. Physical intelligence is not about specific movements but the ability to solve the emergent tasks or situations that evolve through the dancing. This manifests differently in each person and includes the ability to provide mobile support, organizing your body to be lifted, finding fluid pathways into and out of the floor, and the ability to push, yield, and pull away from your partner. We would also include here the ability to creatively engage with your partner. This is the poetics underlying the form. Physical intelligence involves perceptual acuity, the ability to hone in on what is significant to guide your movement, and your capacity to be in touch with yourself, your partners, and your environment. Emotional resonance is the ability to notice how the dancing is affecting you, others, and your environment. It involves the senses and the ability to imagine how we impact one another. It includes the ability to inhibit one’s choices and to imagine beyond the sensorial moment, asking questions like, “What if we tried something different?” Or, “ What is missing here?” Our work seeks to help dancers deepen their understanding of the core principles of CI and to become inspired through the interplay of touch, movement, and imagination. Chris Aiken is an internationally recognized performer and teacher of dance improvisation and contact improvisation. Chris has performed and collaborated with many renowned dance artists, including Angie Hauser, Kirstie Simson, Nancy Stark Smith, Peter Bingham, Andrew Harwood, Joerg Hassman, Ray Chung, and Steve Paxton. He has taught throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He draws on years of dance and somatic training, including the Alexander Technique, Gryotonic/Gyrokinesis, ideokinesis, and myofascial bodywork. He is currently a Professor at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts (USA.) Angie Hauser is a BESSIE Award-winning dancer, choreographer, and teacher whose work is grounded in improvisation, performance, and collaboration. Hauser’s work is marked by her long-time collaborations with artists Bebe Miller, Darrell Jones, and Chris Aiken. She has taught Contact Improvisation and Improvisation throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Colombia, and Peru including featured artist/teacher at International Festival in Freiburg, iDance Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan, West Coast Contact Improvisation Festival, Moab Jam, and the Monteral Jam. She received her MFA in dance from the Ohio State University. She is currently a Professor at Smith College in Massachusetts (USA.)
